For Colombia’s M Pensionado visa, the current specific requirement calls for certification recognizing payment of a lifetime monthly pension to the applicant in an amount of at least three Colombian minimum monthly wages. The certification is therefore more than a generic proof-of-funds document: it establishes the pension entitlement and the monthly amount relied upon.

What the certification needs to establish

The evidence should clearly connect the applicant to a lifetime monthly pension, identify the competent issuing entity and show the pension amount being relied on for the Pensionado requirement. EYM treats those elements as one evidence chain rather than isolated documents.

Apostille and translation are part of the document analysis

The current Pensionado requirement describes certification issued by the competent entity as duly apostilled and translated, while also recognizing an alternative involving the diplomatic or consular mission of the country where the pension was obtained. The correct treatment therefore depends on how the pension evidence is issued and presented.

There is a specific formality exception for some certifications and bank statements

Cancillería currently states that certifications or bank statements may be presented without apostille or legalization, and without official translation into Spanish, when their content is in an official language of the Organization of American States and can be clearly established in all its parts by the Visa and Immigration Authority. This is a conditional exception, not a general rule that all foreign pension documents can skip formalities.

If bank evidence is included, make the story consistent

Bank evidence can help show how the pension payment appears financially, but the Pensionado-specific requirement itself is framed around pension certification. Operationally, the applicant name, pension source, recurring payment and amount relied upon should make sense together across the certificate and any supporting financial records.
