Marriage evidence for Colombia’s Spouse visa

A focused guide to the Colombian civil marriage record, spouse request letter, effective-cohabitation statement and relationship evidence behind the M Spouse application.

Core civil record Colombian marriage record

The current M Spouse requirement calls for an authentic copy of the Colombian civil marriage record.

Document recency Within 3 months

Cancillería currently requires the marriage record to have been issued within the three months before the visa application.

Supporting statement Colombian spouse letter

The Colombian spouse requests the visa and states that the couple effectively cohabits.

The marriage record establishes the legal marriage

For the M Spouse category, the current specific requirement is an authentic copy of the Colombian civil marriage record. The visa authority also specifies a recency condition: the record must have been issued within the three months before the visa application. That makes both the substance of the record and its issue date part of the evidence review.

The Colombian spouse’s letter carries its own evidence function

The current rule requires a letter signed by the Colombian spouse requesting the visa for the foreign spouse and stating effective cohabitation. The letter must clearly provide the Colombian spouse’s telephone number, physical address and email address, and it must be accompanied by a simple copy of the Colombian citizenship ID.

Marriage status and effective relationship evidence are related, but not identical

The civil record documents the marriage. The spouse letter addresses the couple’s effective cohabitation. Cancillería also reserves the ability to request additional evidence demonstrating the effective existence of the relationship when it considers that necessary. There is therefore no universal extra-document checklist that applies identically to every case.

An interview may become part of the relationship review

The Visa and Immigration Authority may call an in-person, virtual or telephone interview when it considers that necessary. If that happens, the goal is not to memorize a script; the marriage record, spouse letter, application information and any additional relationship evidence should describe the same real circumstances consistently.

Marriage-evidence consistency check

  • The Colombian civil marriage record corresponds to the applicant and Colombian spouse.
  • The marriage record satisfies the current issue-date requirement at the time of filing.
  • The Colombian spouse’s letter actually requests the visa.
  • The letter states effective cohabitation.
  • The required telephone, physical-address and email details are present.
  • The simple copy of the Colombian spouse’s citizenship ID accompanies the letter.
  • Any additional relationship evidence requested by the authority is consistent with the application as a whole.

This is an evidence guide, not a second Spouse visa pillar

The main Colombia Spouse visa page remains authoritative for the complete M Spouse pathway, overall eligibility, visa characteristics, work rights, beneficiaries, residence accumulation, general documents, government charges and the application process. This guide owns only the marriage-and-relationship evidence seam.
